Introduction

amaana gives consumers, merchants, and businesses the ability to send and receive money or airtime via SMS, email, Web checkout, or a voice portal. amaana is an alternate payment platform for emerging markets where credit card and bank network penetration and usage is too low to support the birth and growth of electronic or mobile commerce. amaana is focused on providing simple and secure payment solutions to consumers of micro finance, cash management, and prepaid services. This focus set will enable us to then provide micro payment services to the unbanked, and which is key to moving towards a cashless economy.

Board of Directors

Fahd Bangash is the founder of the company and serves as its Chairman and Chief Executive. Most recently he spent 4 years at Palm Computing in Silicon Valley where he managed Business eMarketing for the Treo smartphone. He started his career in technology at MarketFirst Software, a pioneer in marketing automation technology. He has a bachelors degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.

Adeel Mahmood serves as an Executive Director of the company where he is responsible for financial, strategic, and operational issues. He has global investment experience in private equity and hedge fund settings. Most recently, as a Joint Managing Director, he successfully started up a retail venture in India with a North American strategic partner. During his undergraduate studies, he co-founded ScreenFire Technologies, a startup eventually sold to a leading US software company. He is a Canadian CA, holds a CFA designation, and is an Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He also has an MBA from Stanford University.

Ayesha Bangash serves as an Executive Director of the company where she is responsible for administration, public relations, and legal issues. She has previously worked with the Palo Alto school system as a student counselor and she has certification to practice as a child psychologist in California. She has consulting experience with wireless technology companies in Silicon Valley. She holds a bachelors degree in Biology and a graduate degree in Sociology from Stanford University.

Junaid Khan is a Chief Operating Officer with MTC, a leading group cellular operators in the Middle East and Africa. Previously he was Chairman of PTCL where he was also in charge of Ufone. He was a founding member of the management team and later the Chief Executive at Mobilink. He has spent many years with technology multinationals like Motorola here and abroad and is widely regarded as a key player in the telecom industry in Pakistan.

Mubarik Ali is Chief Operating Officer of the First National Equities group of brokerage and financial services companies. He is a veteran of MCB Bank where he has a spent a distinguished career in commercial banking, and where he was a managing a credit portfolio of $500M. He was awarded the SBP Gold Medal by the Institute of Bankers in Pakistan and holds distinctions in higher accountancy. He has an MBA in Finance from Punjab University.

Board of Advisors

Naeem Zafar is a Partner with Concordia Ventures in Silicon Valley. He is also a faculty member with the Haas School of Business at Berkeley where he teaches entrepreneurship. He devotes time to helping entrepreneurs around the world and has a career in top management at several Silicon Valley technology companies.

Roger Bayat is a Director with the Emirates Investment Group in the UAE. He was responsible for the successful launch of the Emirates Global Islamic Bank, the first entity to have applied for and then subsequently received an Islamic Banking license in Pakistan. He is involved with project initiation and operational activity around the region with a particular interest in emerging markets. He has prior experience with financial and trading services in the UK, the Middle East, and Pakistan.

Zahid Jamil is our legal counsel and he is a Barrister of Law at Jamil & Jamil. He was a core drafter of the Electronic Transaction Ordinance of 2002 and is widely regarded as an expert on electronic laws particularly in relation to the banking industry.
